DOOR COMPETITION 16
MAY 2007
The following information is provided by John Connell, President of VPS:
DOOR Definition for May's Competition (From Wikipedia)
A door is a usually hinged or sliding panel that covers a generally floor-length opening in a wall (or other partition), and can be moved to leave the opening accessible, or to close it more or less securely. Doors are nearly universal in structures of all kinds (especially houses and other buildings allowing passage between inside and outside, or among internal rooms. Doors are also found in vehicles, cupboards, cages etc.
The term door can refer either to the opening or to the movable panel or panels which closes it. The term doorway can be used to refer specifically to the opening.
VPS also includes images of door details such as doorknobs, latches, locks, hinges etc. as part of the door definition for the competition. This definition will be provided in advance to assist the Judge in the judging process.
We will ask the Judge to apply the following criteria to each themed image.
1. Not relevant to the theme
2. Relevant to the theme
3. Exemplifies the theme
4. Creative use of the theme
The VPS purpose statement says "Our reason for being is to enhance the enjoyment, mastery and furtherance of photography through cooperation, effort and good fellowship. We exist to provide our members with opportunities to grow in the art and craft of photography." Thus, our goal should be to have a theme that can be interpreted in many different ways but gives members something to provide focus and a challenge. It's also important that the theme doesn't exclude anyone from participating.
