Joseph Miller –
Improving Your Images
Those you who attended the September VPS presentation will recall Mr. Joseph
Miller’s superb and insightful presentation on Abstract Photography.
During the Question and Answer session and discussion afterwards, He was asked
if he could give a presentation along the lines of “what’s wrong with this
photograph” to show us examples of images that might not have been up to
standard and how they were improved. He graciously agreed to return and
do just that. So on March 1st, Mr. Miller will be returning to VPS with
another enlightening photographic presentation.
During the last few months of ‘05, several VPS members were privileged to
attend a “Photography as Art” workshop at his Center for the Photographic Arts
in Northern Virginia. That was just one of his many outreach efforts in helping
us developing our abilities in the art and science of Photography. He writes
extensively on a number of photographic subjects with particular interest in
visual communication and design, judging photographs, and judging judges.
In his 1 March VPS presentation, Mr. Miller will show us images that don’t
quite work, -- point out why, -- and tell us what is needed to make them
better. Serious photographers learn from mistakes and this will be an
opportunity to analyze images that need improvement. Shortcomings in an image
are not always major, indeed sometimes they are minor, but we must be aware of
deficiencies before we can improve our photography.
