Ian J. Plant has been photographing our natural world for the past ten years. His work has appeared in a number of regional and national publications. His most recent book is "Chesapeake: Bay of Light. An Exploration of the Chesapeake Bay's Wild and Forgotten Places." The book follows in the wake of the famous Captain John Smith, who explored the Chesapeake Bay 400 years ago and helped found Jamestown, the first successful English colony in America. "Chesapeake: Bay of Light" presents a photographic vision of the Bay as Smith might have seen it: a wild and untamed place, full of abundant wildlife and seemingly endless shores. Respected Chesapeake author Tom Horton has joined Ian on the project, and his powerful essays bring to light the dangers faced by the Bay today from unchecked development and pollution. "Chesapeake: Bay of Light" is scheduled for release in May 2007.
Other books featuring Ian's photographs include five recent books in the "Wonder and Light" series: "Shenandoah," "Maryland," "West Virginia," "Virginia," and "Blue Ridge Parkway." Ian's photographs have also appeared in a number of scenic wall and engagement calendars published by Mountain Trail Press, including the "Great Smoky Mountains Weekly Engagement Calendar," "Blue Ridge Mountains Scenic Wall Calendar," and a new calendar, "Chesapeake Bay Deluxe Wall Calendar," which is the official calendar of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
