Photographer James
Roy Brings “Fine Art Photos” to VPS in April
James Roy, the fine art photographer known for his
wedding and portrait images as well as photographs of diverse locales such as Italy
and the American Southwest, is the VPS guest speaker in March. His work has
been exhibited in Italy and the United States and James is the recipient of
numerous awards from an array of photographic organizations including the
Professional Photographers of America, Kodak Gallery and Maryland Professional
Photographers Association.
Based at
his Laurel, Md. studio, James caters to the wedding, portrait and fine art
markets. He believes that intrinsic talent is important to photographers but
the creative process is learned and can be taught. That is the essence of his
presentation for VPS, “The Art of Creating Fine Art Photos.”
In addition to his studio work, James conducts
workshops and photo classes in the Washington, D.C. region, Italy, Puerto Rico,
and sites of the Southwest such as Utah’s Monument Valley and Canyonlands
National Park.
The 10 portfolios on his workshop website,
photosafariworkshop.com, include “The Carnival of Venice, Italy,” “Staircases
of the World,” “Flowers in the Wild,” “Dazzling DC,” and “Landscapes of the
American Southwest.” The latter comprises striking visions of the slot canyons
near Page, Ariz., cacti at night and a rare environmental shot of the iconic
Windows arches in Arches National Park, Utah.
Additional images, including several wedding
photographs, are posted on his primary website, www.jamesroyphotography.com.
James will discuss his approach to photography with
VPS on April 7.
