Speaker: Tuan Pham

Title: In Search of Artistic Personality - Zen-Through-the-Lens

Tuan is a life-long practitioner of mindfulness meditation and an award winning amateur photographer.  Last year, eight of his images were juried into the 2010 Mid-Atlantic Photographic Expo.

Tuan learned photography largely by reading books and taking occasional workshops on creative vision from Joseph Miller, Freeman Patterson, and Andre Gallant, among others. He also draws inspiration from the works of photographers John Daido Roshi and Minor White, French impressionist painter Claude Monet, Japanese haiku Master Matsuo Basho, and above all, the Buddha’s teaching on “Wise attention.”

In his presentation, Tuan will discuss his development as a photographic artist, the change in his thinking from “Art is about beauty” to “Art is about meaning,” and his view of photography as Zen art.
