Clifford Wheeler
The judge for April will be Clifford Wheeler. I think he will be a great fit with the semi-critique format we have planned for that evening. I have seen Clifford judge at other clubs and he is extremely articulate and helpful in describing ways to improve an image.
Clifford is a long time member of the Multiple Exposures Gallery in the Torpedo Factory. Among his other exhibits has been one highly recommended by Frank Van Riper with this quote “Wheeler, whose color work is strong as well, makes his biggest impact with his black and white images, including a simply magical print of a light round rock against its darker companions. A simple thing, to be sure, but in Wheeler's capable eye, it is eloquent as well, calling to mind both Steichen and Weston.”
Clifford holds degrees from NOVA and a B.F.A. from the Corcoran School of Art. He owns his own business, Under Ground Glass and Clifford Wheeler and Co. He has been making photographs since the age of sixteen documenting the scouts and local newspapers. His business, Under Ground Glass, specializes in documenting artwork such as sculptures, paintings, drawings and prints.
In 1985, Clifford was invited to join a group of photographers exhibiting in the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia, currently known as Multiple Images. He continues to show his work there.
Clifford works in all camera formats from 35 mm to 8Xl0, and am just as likely to have color film loaded as black and white...usually both!
Clifford is a unique personality and I’m sure we will be entertained and educated.
